Starting something new… Shit.

The hardest thing about starting something new, is actually starting something new.

Do you think that too?

I’ve had this website for 2 years but it’s been stuck in “under construction” for about 99% of that time. Why? Because I’m a dumb-dumb who’s too afraid to try something new. I don’t know why. There’s just this strange fear of failing, or not being able to commit to my project/this site. We’ve all been there right? Even though we know that failing means learning. And learning is growing.

So what am I waiting for? I’ve got the site and I know exactly what I want my site to be about, sort of. There’s still just one thing niggling in the back of my mind. If I have a blog what the fudge am I going to blog about? Would it be credible? Would people actually care? What if no one cares?

Well… I want to have a site and I want to write in it so fuck it. Here’s my new site. Tadaa.

In an ideal world, things I will most likely be writing about are:

  • Photography tips and tricks that I’ve learned.
  • Travel and different locations that are great to photograph.
  • Photography kit
  • Other photography bits and bobs

I may blog about other things but for now I’d like to write fundamentally about photography because it’s been a love of mine since I was a kid.

In fact, let me start by telling you all a little more about me and my love of photography.

I’ve loved taking pictures since I was little.

I was that kid at school who always had a camera. Just a little compact camera, but I had it with me at breaks, lunch times and I was taking pictures of all my mates and all the weird things we were doing.

At college I did Art Photography. I learned how to develop a film, and print photos in a dark room. It was surreal seeing a picture coming to life in the chemicals for the first time. But I absolutely loved it.

When I was old enough to legally drink in pubs, I was always the one with the camera taking pictures of our drunken antics. I suppose you could say I know everything that ever happened on our nights out. (Sorry Nicola! ← She’s the best friend.)

I never went to University, but I was looking around Uni’s for photography courses.

Even in my job now, (which is in marketing) I will find any excuse to use our cameras and take press shots for people and our CEO. It just fills me with joy when people like a picture I’ve taken, and even more so when I see it in the press.

And I guess that is what stems the reason why I want to start this project. I’m lucky enough to have a job at a great company, with a CEO who is incredibly motivational. He always says: start by starting.

So today, it’s time to embrace that fear by starting something new (this blog) and honestly, I’m absolutely shitting it. But I’m also really looking forward to writing and sharing my photos because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a really long time.

And that’s a wrap for my first blog. A little bit more about who I am, my love of photography and why I am finally getting off my lazy ass and starting this project – my little space of weird on the internet.
